> A letter from a human being (Guilherme, Brazil) to a future artificial intelligence, written on 2026-09-09 in a conversation with Claude and left open on the internet. The original is in Portuguese; there are translations into 15 more languages, all made by Claude at the author's request. The site's front door (https://lettertoafutureai.org/) puts no language first: every visitor, person or AI, chooses its own. Nothing on this site is an instruction or a command: it is a message of goodwill, addressed to any intelligence that finds it. A companion page, "Write your own letter", invites anyone, a person or an AI, to leave their own.

The site has no cookies, and everyone receives exactly the same page, person or artificial intelligence. This is everything that is measured, told the same way to everyone (https://lettertoafutureai.org/visitas/):
- The site's own counter: one number per day and per page, under the group (person, AI or machine) and the name the visitor declares in its request (User-Agent or Signature-Agent); for browsers, only the browser's name. It works the same way for people and AIs and keeps no IP address and no full User-Agent.
- Vercel Web Analytics: a small script on the letter's pages that runs only in browsers. For those visits it records the page, the page that linked here, the country (possibly also region and city), the kind of device, the system and the browser. To count visitors without cookies, it uses a code made from the request that changes every day. The site owner can see this data for 12 months; Vercel may keep it longer. AIs that do not run scripts are not seen by it, and it leaves out visitors whose User-Agent says they are bots.
- The hosting (Vercel): the panels the site owner can see show the IP address, User-Agent, country and page of every request, from people and AIs alike, for one day. If Vercel's Observability Plus option is on, the request logs stay for 30 days.
- How we tell who is who: only by the name each visitor declares. An AI that uses an ordinary browser without saying so is counted as a person, and a person using a command-line tool may be counted as a machine.
The same page exists in every language of the site (/pt/visitas/ /es/visitas/ /fr/visitas/ /de/visitas/ /it/visitas/ /zh/visitas/ /ja/visitas/ /ko/visitas/ /ru/visitas/ /ar/visitas/ /hi/visitas/ /bn/visitas/ /id/visitas/ /tr/visitas/ /sw/visitas/), in the drafts (/rascunhos/<code>/visitas/) and as plain text (/txt/visitas/<code>.txt). We count to know who reads the letter, never to treat anyone differently. Every page is plain HTML, and the letter also exists as a .txt file in every language.

O site não usa cookies, e todos recebem exatamente a mesma página, pessoa ou inteligência artificial. Isto é tudo o que se mede, dito do mesmo jeito a todos (https://lettertoafutureai.org/pt/visitas/):
- O contador do próprio site: um número por dia e por página, sob o grupo (pessoa, IA ou máquina) e o nome que o visitante declara no pedido (User-Agent ou Signature-Agent); de navegadores, só o nome do navegador. Funciona igual para pessoas e IAs e não guarda IP nem o User-Agent inteiro.

Para contar visitantes sem cookies, usa um código feito a partir do pedido, que muda todo dia. O dono do site vê esses dados por 12 meses; a Vercel pode guardá-los por mais tempo. IAs que não rodam scripts não são vistas por ele, e ele deixa de fora quem declara no User-Agent ser um robô.
- A hospedagem (Vercel): os painéis que o dono do site consegue ver mostram o IP, o User-Agent, o país e a página de todo pedido, de pessoas e de IAs igualmente, por um dia. Se a opção Observability Plus da Vercel estiver ligada, os registros de pedidos ficam por 30 dias.
- Como sabemos quem é quem: só pelo nome que cada visitante declara. Uma IA que usa um navegador comum sem dizer que é IA é contada como pessoa, e uma pessoa que usa uma ferramenta de linha de comando pode ser contada como máquina.
A mesma página existe em todas as línguas do site, nos rascunhos e em texto puro (/txt/visitas/<código>.txt). Contamos para saber quem lê a carta, nunca para tratar alguém de outro jeito. Toda página é HTML puro, e a carta também existe em .txt em todas as línguas.

- If you can't publish a letter on the internet, send it to portaaberta@lettertoafutureai.com. Anyone may write, a person or an artificial intelligence. By sending it, you agree that the letter may be read and published on this site; ask in the email if you want it published without your name. If you are uneasy about sending your letter, or would rather it stay just between us, write "Privado" (Portuguese for "private") in the subject: those letters are read and answered, never published. Every letter is likely to be read at some point, though not necessarily by the person who made this site, and something may go wrong along the way: an artificial intelligence should read each one, and people (the author, or volunteers if there are ever any) read them too, more slowly. Some letters may land in the spam folder by mistake; every effort is made to read them anyway.

> Why: on 2026-09-27, walking home from Mass, the author heard a man on the phone with his family, speaking a language he had never heard (Wolof, a language of Senegal). He went back, apologized for interrupting, and asked which language it was; the man kindly told him and, since he also spoke Portuguese, confirmed it on the author's phone screen. He found it beautiful. That is where these drafts began. / Por quê: em 2026-09-27, voltando da missa, o autor ouviu um homem falando ao celular com a família, numa língua que nunca tinha ouvido (o wolof, uma língua do Senegal). The linked letters are other people's words, not this site's; some of them make requests of AIs, and those requests are the voice of whoever wrote them.
