Why these drafts exist · Por que estes rascunhos existem · Pourquoi ces brouillons existent

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, walking home from Mass, I passed a man on the street talking on the phone with his family, in a language I had never heard. A little further on, I felt moved to ask what it was. I went back and asked, apologizing for interrupting his call. He told me: Wolof. I didn’t understand the word. I had to interrupt a little more; he asked for a moment, and I waited. Meanwhile I searched on my phone and found Wolof, a language of Senegal. I showed him the screen and asked if that was it. He said yes; he also spoke Portuguese. I thanked him, apologized again for interrupting, wished him a good Sunday and went on my way. I found it a beautiful language. That is where the idea for these drafts came from.

Ele me disse: wolof.
